Volunteer Coordinator

Jhatkaa.org believes that citizens play a key role in democracy - holding government and corporate leaders accountable to the greater good. A volunteer coordinator plays a vital role in engaging citizens to take action in meaningful ways.

 

Your key objective will be increasing the base of citizens who volunteer to take various kinds of action in support of Jhatkaa.org’s campaigns. To do this you will need to plan regular meet-ups, events and other ways to keep volunteers engaged in ways that provide tactical benefits to our campaigns.

Reports to: Campaigns Manager

 

On an average day, you would be expected to execute some of the following tasks:

  • Liaise with the campaigns team to understand how they work, identify moments and assess volunteering needs
  • Plan for ways to generate volunteering opportunities
  • Planning how and where to recruit volunteers
  • Use social media to recruit and retain volunteers
  • Planning for volunteer retention and replacement
  • Plan for and organize regular offline events/ volunteer meet-ups
  • Develop ways to recognize and reward volunteer efforts
  • Communicate with existing volunteers
  • Look after and update volunteer database and records
  • Roster and organize volunteers
  • Delegate projects and tasks
  • Manage any associated budgets and expenditure

 

Ideally, it would be great if you possess few of the following skills and attributes:

  • A strong writer and oral communicator - You will be regularly communicating with volunteers and motivating them to work with Jhatkaa.org to create change.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - you are able to engage people easily. You can speak to a crowd and get them to work together, yet you can also speak to an individual and understand their needs and abilities.
  • Event management - you understand how to set up and run events, and are able to keep in mind all of the pieces of work to coordinate a successful event.
  • Creative - you can ideate new and interesting ways to engage people and keep them involved.
  • Self-starter - You won’t let anything get in the way of achieving individual and organisational objectives.
  • Process oriented - You realize the importance of being organized, and value processes that are in place to ease the way we work
  • Quick learner - You need the ability to synthesize news and information quickly, and act on it strategically.

 

We do not expect you to come with all of the above skills and characteristics. But we expect passion, excitement and motivation about the work you’re doing and the willingness to learn a lot of new things.

 

Jhatkaa has a fast-paced, collaborative work culture. You should be ready to face new challenges at a startup and be completely ego-less.

 

Fluency in English and at least one other Indian language are needed. Fluency in other languages will be an advantage.
