About Jhatkaa:

Jhatkaa is a non-profit campaigning start-up committed to building grassroots citizen power across India to help people take action collectively on issues that interest or affect them. We engage citizens to hold leaders accountable in real time at key decision moments through various digital communication platforms in order to create change that would not be possible if they acted alone.

We’re looking to add a Campaigner or Senior Campaigner, based on experience, to our capable and effective team. This position will play a key role within the Campaigns Team.

Your role:

You’ll be responsible for running your own campaigns, from end-to-end. The broad issue areas that we work on are air pollution, climate change, women’s rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, human rights, digital/privacy rights, corporate accountability, and governance.

On an average day, you would be expected to execute some of the following tasks:

  • Staying on top of the news cycle
  • Quickly researching new issues
  • Brainstorming creative campaign hooks
  • Pitching ideas to the team
  • Writing compelling copy
  • Testing and optimising content
  • Reviewing digital analytics
  • Pursuing campaigns that are performing well
  • Managing partnerships
  • Leveraging social media
  • Building relationships with reporters
  • Organising on-the-ground actions when necessary

Ideally, it would be great if you possess few of the following skills and attributes:

  • A strong writer and oral communicator - You will be writing compelling content to motivate our 3,00,000+ supporters to take action, and speaking with decision-makers, key partners, and reporters.
  • Self-starter - You won’t let anything get in the way of achieving individual and organisational objectives.
  • Tech enthusiast - You understand technology and are not afraid to learn new tech skills to improve our campaigning tactics.
  • Process oriented - You realize the importance of being organized, and value processes that are in place to ease the way we work
  • Quick learner - You need the ability to synthesize news and information quickly, and act on it strategically.
  • Data-driven mindset - You should constantly be thinking about relevant data points, analysing what they mean, and how to better integrate them into your work.
  • A solid grasp of the political, social, and cultural landscape in India

The role of a Campaigner is unique in India, and that’s why we do not expect you to come with all of the above skills and characteristics. But we expect passion, excitement and motivation about the work you’re doing and the willingness to learn a lot of new things. We will also provide you with the necessary skills and training to succeed in this role.

Jhatkaa has a fast-paced, collaborative work culture. You should be ready to face new challenges at a startup and be completely ego-less.

Fluency in English and at least one other Indian language are needed. Fluency in other languages will be an advantage.
